WHAT TO EXPECT
Separate sessions.
A shared opportunity to move forward.
Lorena meets with parties separately, giving each person space to discuss concerns and consider options.
01 / BEFORE MEDIATION
Prepare for the conversation
Identify the issues you want to address and gather relevant information. Session arrangements, fees, and the agreement to mediate are discussed before mediation begins.
02 / DURING MEDIATION
Be heard. Explore options.
Each party meets separately with the mediator. Lorena helps clarify concerns and, with permission, communicates proposals between the parties.
03 / NEXT STEPS
Decide what works for you
If you reach an agreement, discuss how it will be documented and what review or further action is needed. If issues remain, you can identify the next steps.
COMMON QUESTIONS
A little clarity
before you begin.
Do we have to sit in the same room?
Lorena uses separate sessions. You will have time to discuss your concerns with her individually while she helps the parties explore possible solutions.
Will the mediator decide who is right?
No. The mediator is neutral and does not make decisions for you. Each party decides whether to accept a proposed agreement.
Do I need an attorney?
You may wish to consult your attorney before mediation and before signing an agreement. Lorena does not represent either party as an attorney or provide legal advice in her role as mediator.
What should I bring?
Bring a list of the issues you want to discuss and documents relevant to those issues. The materials needed depend on your situation and can be discussed when arranging the session.
What does mediation cost?
Ask about fees, payment arrangements, and available session lengths before scheduling. These details will be discussed before you commit to mediation.
What if we do not reach an agreement?
You are not required to accept a proposal. Mediation may still help narrow the disputed issues or clarify the concerns that need further attention.
